A Musical Pun

Phantom of the Opera

Phantom of the Opera

This funny postcard comes from Susi, who lives in Germany. If I am not mistaken, the name of Phantom of the Opera in German would be Phantom der Oper. The postcard is punny in that Phantom der Opa would mean, “Phantom of the Grandfather.” But nothing is ever funny if it needs to be explained. Just in case you’ve been living in a distant part of the universe and have never heard of it. The Phantom of the Opera is a musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Anyway, I don’t want to take away from the lightheartedness of this postcard by telling you all about when it is was written, how it was written, where it was written and the colour of Andrew’s underwear during the time it was written, so I’ll just end off by thanking Susi. Thank you Susi!
