This spectacular view postcard was sent to me by Weny. It depicts that building that astonished us all with its great height, the Burj Khalifa. Reaching a height of 829.8 meters, it is by far the tallest building in the world. The project was finished on 1 October 2009, at a total cost of $1.5 billion. The building was meant to be called Burj Dubai but was renamed Burj Khalifa, in honour of the UAE president, as a result of his aid in rescuing the project during the financial crisis, which saw the project being in serious danger. While the financial crisis was going on, in 2010, it was reported that 825 of the 900 apartments in the building were still vacant. With rent of $37 500 per square meter, it is no wonder that nobody lived there but boy if I had that kind of money, I sure wouldn’t mind having an apartment in this beautiful district of Dubai. By October of 2012 more than 80% of the apartments in the building had been taken up, so at least it’s being used now. I hope to go see this building myself someday. Thank you Weny!
