From the other side of my great continent, Natalia in the Ivory Coast, sent me this magnificent postcard. Magnificent not only for its beauty but also for its rarity. My first postcard from Sub-Saharan Africa (despite living in a Sub-Saharan African countries) and I couldn’t be more proud of it. The Ivory Coast is probably one of my absolute favourite countries on the continent and despite its infamy for civil unrest, I think it is a country with great potential. Most of the people only know it for Laurent Gbagbo’s grip to power in 2011 which had the world buzzing along with the Libyan crisis. But what you might not know is that the chocolate that you are now chewing on probably finds it’s roots in this awesome country! Côte d’Ivoire, as they call it in French, is by far the world’s largest producer of cacao beans, followed by Indonesia, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Brazil, Ecuador, Togo, Dominican Republic and Peru. South America, eat your heart out, your continent is not nearly as sweet as ours. Ruhan Robinson, proud to be African, signing off. Oh, and thanks so much Natalia!
