Holy pope! I cannot believe my luck with regard to getting a postcard of St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican City! This is all thanks to Hanne. The Egyptian obelisk erected in front of St. Peter’s Basilica is 4000 years old and was erected here in 1568. An absolute symbol of the christian faith, I’m sure. Between 1656 and 1667 Pope Alexander XII desperately wanted the most possible people to see him bless people and had the square constructed. It really is a pretty place but I think that on the day the pope gives his blessing, I would not want to be anywhere near it. My claustrophobia would not allow for that unfortunately. Love the postcard, thank you Hanne!
