My Only Valentine

CUTE!!!

CUTE!!!

Without a shadow of a doubt, this has to be the cutest postcard that I have received so far. It comes from Heather, who lives in Massachusetts in the USA. It’s my first Valentine’s gift in 10 years, exactly. But before I start blurting out all the tales of my non-existent love life, I would just like to take the time to thank you, Heather, for a great postcard and I hope you get spoiled to bits this year!

The Mother of Dragons

Danaerys Targaryen, Mother of Dragons

Danaerys Targaryen, Mother of Dragons

Ever since I started watching Game of Thrones, I have had one character that I just loved. That of course being Danaerys. Brook was kind enough to send me this great postcard of her and I absolutely love it. If Danaerys is the mother of dragons, then surely that would soon mean that I will get to be the stepfather of dragons. I will not be adding value to her campaign of taking over Westeros by claiming the Iron Throne but I will certainly be more than happy to give her more heirs than all the great houses of Westeros have combined. Happily obliged! Thank you Brook, I love this postcard!

Virginian Barn

Barn in Virginia

Barn in Virginia

This postcard comes from Brook, who is from Virginia in the USA. She took this photo herself and made it into a postcard. How neat is that! Brook tells me that she loves to drive around and take pictures, especially in autumn, when the leaves are changing colour. She also says that a barn like this one is usually used to dry tobacco after harvesting. As a smoker, I am most familiar with Virginian tobacco. So, thank you Brook for showing me where my suicide sticks come from!

The Bay State

Massachusetts, USA

Massachusetts, USA

This postcard of the Bay State, Massachusetts, USA, comes from John. Officially known as the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, this state with its ridiculously long name is home to approximately 6.7 million people. Spanning only 27 336 square kilometers, it is the third most densely populated state in the USA, although 2 in 3 people living in the state live in the Greater Boston Metropolitan Area. Like many of the other states in the country, Massachusetts is named after the indigenous people that lived in the area. On 6 February 1788, Massachusetts became the 6th state to form part of the Union. Today, this great state is one of the states in the USA that I’d most like to visit. If not the one I’d most like to visit. It is also the seat of my absolute favourite politician, Elizabeth Warren. What a champion she is. Kickass in oversight! That’s the only way to describe her efforts. Thank you John!

The White Beauties

Polar Bears

Polar Bears

This awesome postcard of the most adorable polar bears in Alaska comes from Francis, who lives in Oregon. The scientific name of the polar bear is ursus maritimus, which literally means “maritime bear,” as they spend most of their lives in the ocean. These 2 cubs would have been born in December and would have stayed in their den until late March or early April. Unfortunately the population of these beautiful animals are in decline, as for years hunting was their biggest threat, there is now also an added threat: drowning, which is occurring as a result of climate change. Sad indeed. An adult boar could weigh anything between 350 and 700 kilograms, which is about double the size of the sow. These are truly wonderful and beautiful creatures!

A Real Cowboy

Texas, The home of REAL cowboys

Texas, The home of REAL cowboys

This postcard, which is a little literal in its take on what a cowboy is, comes from Marian, who obviously resides in the Lone Star State. More specifically, she lives in Dallas. I do enjoy this postcard, as a good dose of dry humour is always fun. Puns are also awesome, I especially enjoy one on a blue Punday. I like it loads Marian, thank you so much!

Birmingham, Alabama

Birmingham City Hall, Alabama, USA

Birmingham City Hall, Alabama, USA

This postcard comes from Danielle. It shows the City Hall of Birmingham in Alabama, USA. No points for guessing where the city’s name comes from. But here’s a clue, for the clueless, the settlers who founded the city in 1871 were of English descent. Not only is it the largest city in Alabama but it is also the seat of Jefferson County, a county that even I have heard of. Spanning only 393 square kilometers and having a population of over 212 000, it has a relatively high population density. The economy of the city is still largely founded on steel production and like England’s Birmingham, it too is a major manufacturing hub. Thank you for a great postcard Danielle!

Cool Wine Card

California Wine Country

California Wine Country

This great postcard comes from Ruth, who is from California and sent it to me via Postcrossing. It is about a region in Northern California, called the “Wine Country,” which is a premium wine-growing region in the state. I would love to be able to say that I know exactly which premium wines are being referred to but sadly this student’s life is apparently long enough to appreciate cheap wine. At any rate, I always these alcoholic postcards! Makes me wanna crack a bottle. Thank you Ruth!

Hangin’ Out

Just Hangin' Out in Alabama

Just Hangin’ Out in Alabama

I received this cute postcard from Carey. It shows what I believe to be an opossum that is just hangin’ out in Alabama. Whenever I see it, I think about A Goofy Movie where Goofy and Max travel to this swampy place and dance around with the weirdest people and one of these cute fellows gets into Max’s pants, making him dance around to the point where the people are cheering him on. At any rate, I hope I have the right name for the creature. Thank you Carey, it’s really cute!
