Carlos, a friend from Brazil recently had a trip to Israel and sent me this awesome postcard of the Hebrew alphabet. I had to do a bit of an inspection on the postcard before I realised where it was from, as Carlos forgot to say where the postcard came from but then I had my “Oh!” moment through the way in which I was greeted and the hand writing on the postcard. Hebrew is a West Semitic language of the Afroasiatic Family. It’s first record as a written language goes back at least 3000 years. As of the 3rd century it was no longer really being spoken but its revival came in the 18th Century. Today, some 5.3 million people speak it. It’s the official language of Israel and is given recognised minority language status in Poland. Carlos reckons that he hopes we are soon fluent in Hebrew but I have to say that I cannot foresee that happening! Thank you Carlos!
