Alice, a Moldovan girl, sent me this postcard of Mileştii Mici, a Moldovan wine cellar. She also succeeded in making my jaw drop, as the last thing that I expect from the nation, is wine making. I can’t really say that I had any stereotypes of Moldova in my mind or any prejudices for that matter but somehow I just did not imagine wine whenever I heard the name of this small eastern European country. Mileştii Mici is a state enterprise quality wines estate located in the country. The cellars, extend for (and I could not believe my eyes either) 250km underground, of which 120km is currently being used. In 2005 Mileştii Mici was entered into the Guinness Book of Records for having the largest collection of wines on the planet, with nearly 2 million bottles! Almost enough to quench my thirst for wine forever. 70% of the wine stored here are red, 20% are white and 10% are dessert. Mileştii Mici exports far and wide, including to Japan, Sweden, the USA, Great Britain, Czech Republic, Poland, Greece, Germany, Denmark and Finland. I started this blog for the learning experience and with every postcard I receive, I learn something new. This one just proved that. Thank you Alice.
