Why Postcards?

I have always had a serious fascination with the world and with the people of the world. It has been a dream of mine to travel the world as well. So far it is only a dream but before I travel the world by plane, ship, bus and train, at least I will get some travelling done by being stationary. Being the product of the modern thirst for instant gratification, I have found it best to bring the mountain to Mohammed. I really also do like collecting things and a surprise is just as great… Postcards are PERFECT for this!

“Good things come to those who wait”, they say. Well, I send a postcard, I wait and before long… something good comes along in the mail.

What further fascinates me, is the fact that somebody far from where I am and whom I don’t know has taken the time to send me something that I love. This is of course usually quid pro quo but it is the thought that counts.

I do not think that I would have been as passionate about postcards, were it not for a friend that I had made from Guernsey. It was her that first recommended I join Postcrossing. She also has a delightful blog about postcards, which is a must for any postcard enthusiast!

  1. I just tripped on your blog – it is great!
I became interested in postcards when I was very young and did a project on the history of postcards. My grandmother gave me all the family cards dating back to that time. I’ve maintained a collection – mostly passive – since then. But this is a great idea.

    Can I play??

I just added my final continent to the collection – Antarctica. (My collection rules are that they have to be sent to or from a family member.)

    • Then I am very glad that you tripped over my blog like this!

Oh that’s very interesting. I have actually wondered about the origin of postcards but have never sat down and tried to find out.

Oh, please do play! Nobody with an Antarctica postcard is safe around me until I have one to. Just saying! haha.

      • I haven’t forgotten – things have been a bit hectic. If you still have my email, send your address and I will email to family and friends in the USA for states you do not have.
